SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR CAREER:
Presenting 40 years of professional experience in the acquisition, training and sale of dogs for detection of narcotics, explosives, mines and accelerants; delivered additional dog services for home protection, companionship, assisting the disabled and general security.
Owner and operator of Edlyn Kennels of Fenwick Ontario since 1973; and A.T.S. K9 Ltd.
Appeared as a domestic dog training expert on numerous T.V. and Radio talk shows; trained a dog for specific uses on TV’s “The Law and You”; acted as dog wrangler on movie “Resident Evil Apocalypse.
Identified and trained dog handlers within police forces, emergency response teams, security services and foreign governments under conflict; paired handlers and dogs after detailed interviews and field observations.
Demonstrated consistent success in the selection and acquisition of high-caliber canines from both import and domestic markets.
Rated as Canada’s premier dog and dog handler trainer; achieved consistent high rankings in regional and world competitions for search and detection.
Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting security issues, identifying vulnerabilities and setting up dog training for general protection and emergency situations.
Provided on-going training for multi-purpose police dogs for the purposes of tracking, searching of buildings, drug and article detection for the past 20 years.
Led police department seminars and training programs across Canada and the US for the certification of dogs and their officer handlers in general patrol and detection services.
Accredited explosive, narcotic, arson and landmine detection dog handler and trainer who is regularly sought after by foreign governments and security services.
Acted as Training Director for Shutzhund Clubs of Ontario for 8 years; instrumental in the acquisition of over 100 Schutzhund competition titles by club members.
Member of respected National and International Associations and Clubs.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Security Consultant / Detection Dog Trainer & Handler 1973 to present
Provided on-going accredited dog training to Police and Security services across Canada and the U.S.A., delivering an average of 70 fully trained dogs per year.
2003 – 2006: Selected and trained 16 Bomb Detection dogs for high profile security companies; cross-trained police dogs and their handlers for North American cities; prepared dogs for container searches for shipping companies and for drug searches in school districts; provided accelerant detection services for Fire Investigators looking into suspicious fires; implemented security services for Ismali Council of Canada. BOMB DETECTION SEARCHES in Toronto Ontairo for two of Prince AGA KHAN’S high profile visits ; provided on-going consulting and retraining for mine detection dogs, their handlers and trainers.
2001 – 2003: Contracted through CIDC Nova Scotia as training manager and handler instructor for the Mine Detection Dog (MDD) program in Trebinje, Bosnia, Canine Countermine; prepared and certified 12 dogs for service in initial training round; provided on-going support to Trebinje’s handlers and dogs; oversaw the retraining of 40 animals and their handlers for fine-tuning. Established testing scenarios for British rescue dogs in theatre and provided their main testing area in the Balkans; structured training criteria and wrote the service manuals.
2002 – 2003: Acted as training manager and instructor for new MDD program in Croatia involving 10 dogs and their handlers; selected dogs and matched them with appropriate handlers; delivered training program during 11 month period; currently, dogs and their handlers remain active and continue providing services.
2000: Formed new company called PAWS International Detection Services and selected 5 German Shepherds from Hungary; dogs trained in Canada for landmine detection. Two of the trained dogs went to Kosovo; they were the first Canadian dogs to be accredited in a foreign country; the other 3 dogs went to Bosnia; Sid proved to be the first Canadian dog trainer and handler to certify under UN accreditation rules in Kosovo.
1999: Established a kennel facility in Bosnia, Herzegovina through a program funded by CIDC and CIDA; initiated a mine detection program with local inhabitants; acquired dogs from Hungary, Germany and the Czech Republic; paired dogs with handlers who were trained as de-miners; 1st Canadian effort of its kind; dogs and handlers are certified and currently working.
1993: Attended international trade shows and symposiums in Venezuela to demonstrate the effectiveness of narcotics and explosive detection dogs; used own animals.
1980 – 1998: Delivered approximately 30 seminars over the years related to bomb and drug detection dog training for various police department re-certifications.
1985 – present: Performed duties as owner, trainer and handler of drug, explosive and arson detection dogs currently working under contract across North America.
1986 – 1991: Managed drug searches at 6 Maximum Security Penal Institutions in Western Canada; set up and structured a multi-handler patrol dog system for 2 other prisons.
Responsible for the training and placement of Patrol Dogs for CORRECTIONS CANADA, stationed in Kingston Penitentiary, Instructor for over 50 guards in the proper handling, care and training of Patrol Dogs.
Established as a Key Resource for selecting and training dogs and their handlers for MDDs, security, general patrol, narcotics and explosives detection; serving the Military, Customs Services, Police Departments, Private Industries and Private Security Services across North and South America.
TRAINING SEMINARS:
Conducted numerous training seminars for North American Police Services for the purposes of certification and re-certification of their dogs and handlers.
